About David Smithson, MD
Growing up as the son of a physician in a small town in Oklahoma, I always knew I wanted to be a doctor. I saw what a positive difference my father made, so it was only natural that I followed in his footsteps. I attended and graduated college at the University of Mississippi. After Old Miss, I went to medical school at the University of Oklahoma. During my medical career, I did my internal medicine residency at O.U.-Tulsa, and later did a sports medicine fellowship in Birmingham, AL at the American Sports Medicine Institute, headed by Dr. James Andrews.
I have done many things during my medical career, including private practice, working for the United States Navy, and serving as a team physician for the Auburn University Athletic Department. I started to transition into integrative medicine 12 years ago, including work in bio identical hormones, nutrition, stem cells, exosomoes, platelet rich plasma and oxygen therapies.
